“Sweet Spirit Pie”
First ingredient: 1 hungry soul
Crust: 1 c. sifted whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 c. butter shortening
1/2 c. ice water
Blend first two ingredients; cut in shortening, and add small amounts of water until a nice pliable dough is formed. Roll out on a lightly floured pastry board. Place in a 9-inch pie plate. Cut and shape desired edge of pastry.
Filling:
2 c . yams cooked and mashed
3 eggs-beaten
1 c. sour cream
1/3 c. raw honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon for flavor
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
In a large bowl combine the slightly beaten eggs with the cooked/mashed yams; to that add the sour cream and honey; then add the spices. Beat well. Pour into prepared pastry shell and bake at 400 degrees for 45-50 min. Insert a knife in center to test if done.

First, take one hungry soul and place him with a community of Christian friends. Blend him with saintly kindred spirits and watch him flourish and grow. Next, add a little humor which is always nice when added to the mix. It will bring joy and laughter not only to him but to others real quick. It must be noted here, too, that wisdom is also a necessary ingredient in this recipe for the soul.
While preparing fruitful character, at times sifting will be needed in order to get rid of the dross — which will be no great loss. Maturity will be gained and refining for sure. Small amounts of admonishment and some setbacks along the way, bring one closer to the finished product . . . you might say. It may take vigilance and a little encouragement to keep one fully stirred for the final goal. Without diligence, it will be hard to complete this cooking task, but in the end, it will be well-worth the wait to see how God seasons and seals the soul.
